I have concerns about Black lives and creating safe spaces for people of color. My work is justice focused and on the persistent racial inequalities, particularly within the U.S. criminal justice system and educational systems which results in higher rates of police brutality, the criminalization of mental health persons, unfair stops, detentions, and harsher sentencing for Black people. I am also concerned with voter suppression, educational inequity and economic inequity.
These issues are rooted in systemic racism.I believe we must address all intersectional harms to the residents of Mecklenburg County.
