Secretary of State, California
Support comes from a wide coalition of Democratic clubs, labor unions, elected leaders, and progressive advocacy groups across California. That breadth suggests confidence in steady leadership, strong ties to organized labor, and appeal across party activists, women’s political groups, LGBTQ organizations, and public-sector voices. Editorial board backing adds to the sense of established institutional trust.
Weber has run California's elections competently and without drama. Under her, California hit a record 22.6 million registered voters and expanded same-day registration. She refused a federal demand for the state voter database and won in court.
Shirley Weber’s tenure as Secretary has gone relatively unnoticed which should count as a success metric. You’d only hear about the Secretary if something had gone wrong. Her values are pro voter participation and pro voter privacy. Behind the scenes I’m sure she’s been dealing with a variety of threats from federal officials with bad intentions and to date, none of that has had an effect on us. I have no second choice, because the other candidates in the race are either trying to dismantle our election system, restrict participation in voting, or are entirely unqualified for the job. Let’s hope Ms. Weber has a deputy she’s been mentoring, because we will need someone with this much experience when her term is up.
I support her!
